On December 7, 2014, Pi Theta Lambda Chapter hosted Alpha Phi Alpha’s 108th Founders’ Day Dinner in San Antonio, Texas (AREA 7), which featured the 34th General President, Brother Mark S. Tillman as the keynote speaker. The program was a collaborative effort and featured participation and representation from Brothers within fellow San Antonio-area chapters: Delta Rho Lambda and Epsilon Sigma (UT-San Antonio).
It was also attended by TCAC President/Texas District Director, Brother Tarrynce Robinson; former National Vice-President of the Western Region/former General President ad interim, Brother Aaron Crutison; and Gamma Eta Lambda Chapter President, Brother Kevin Pete. The historic occasion marked the first time since the 1989 General Convention that a sitting General President visited the Alamo City.
The visit was coordinated by Brother Willie M. Heard III and Brother (Dr.) Philip Parker, under the former’s administration. It took place under the administration of the Brother Elliott Perry, and was MC’ed by Brother Vernon Nauls, Jr. Brother Tillman’s remarks paid homage to former Mayor of Washington, D.C., Brother Marion Barry, as well as, memorialized Brother (Dr.) Robert L. Hilliard; as they had recently transitioned to Omega Chapter. Brother Tillman proceeded to discuss how ALPHA was currently engaged in the ongoing struggle for civil rights and fight against police brutality. Brother Tillman implored the Brothers of Pi Theta Lambda Chapter and the other Brothers in attendance to continue to promote the Fraternity’s Mission of service and advocacy through mentoring and community involvement.
